UNFI Associates Rolled Up Their Sleeves to Celebrate Earth Month

UNFI associates showed love for their communities and the planet by participating in cleanups, large and small, throughout the month of April. "Our community is important to us, and keeping it clean is a priority,” said Tommy Seaman, HR Business Partner and volunteer captain at UNFI Centralia, Washington.
Both Centralia and UNFI Harrisburg, Pennsylvania partnered with their local veterans parks, with teams clearing the grounds, roads and paths of litter. "Our managers jumped at the opportunity to gather the team for an Earth Day cleanup and were excited to do their part for the community and the environment,” said Nejoua Meflah Salinkas, HR Manager at UNFI Harrisburg.
In other locations, associates organized team cleanups in areas around their distribution centers, with some associates dedicating their lunchtime to the cleanup effort, proving no effort is too small to make an impact.
Our leadership teams also embraced Earth Month by exchanging a conference room for the outdoors. In place of weekly staff meetings, operations leaders in Iowa City, Iowa picked up trash near their facility.
Corporate associates across North America did their part as well, often with family and friends, by taking to their local streets, neighborhood parks, and nature reserves, to remove trash.
We applaud our associates for their commitment to Do the Right Thing for their communities and the environment during Earth Month. The spirit of giving back and dedication to our core values is exemplified by Tina Colborn-Krug, Associate Experience Manager in Sarasota, who shared, "Giving back to the community reflects my values, and working at a company that supports volunteerism is very important to me."
