Myles Comfort Foods: A Journey of Progress and Inspiring Change

February 13, 2025           5 minute read

Throughout February, we’re spotlighting members of the UNFI community whose stories reflect progress, resilience, and innovation. This week, we’re celebrating Myles Powell, co-founder and CEO of Myles Comfort Foods

For Myles, comfort food isn’t just a culinary experience; it’s a reflection of purpose and perseverance. When he launched his rebranded company in 2022, he carved out a space in the competitive food industry by prioritizing clean ingredients and transparent operations. His journey, however, began years earlier with 8 Miles, a brand that laid the foundation for his current success.

“Funny thing is, when I first dreamt of being in this industry, I remember walking the aisles of a Giant store,” Myles recalls. “I said to myself, ‘One day, I’m going to figure out how to be on these shelves.’ At the time, I knew nothing. Now, eight years later, we’re in Giant, Target, Whole Foods, and it’s been an incredible ride.”

Rebranding to Myles Comfort Foods was more than a cosmetic change; it was a strategic evolution. Armed with consumer research and a clear vision for growth, he refined his packaging, streamlined operations, and worked tirelessly to ensure his brand’s value proposition resonated with consumers in the aisle. Along the way, UNFI’s UpNext program and his Supplier Relationship Manager provided valuable guidance, offering an added layer of support as he built a scalable and impactful brand.

Beyond building his business, he is passionate about mentorship, particularly for minority-owned startups that often face unique barriers. “A lot of people with great ideas never make it past the concept stage because they don’t have access to the right information and resources,” he explains. “As a community, we can do a better job bridging that gap. Nothing makes me prouder than when a mentee comes back years later, having achieved a milestone we talked about.”

Myles Powell embodies purposeful leadership. His story reminds us that resilience, collaboration, and a commitment to uplifting others can create meaningful change, not just in business but in the broader community.
