At UNFI, we strive to deliver Better Food and create a Better Future for everyone we serve.
Today, we are proud to share our 15th annual Impact Report highlighting how our Better for All impact strategy continues to create value across our business and drive sustainability progress. By aligning our impact strategy with our business goals, we’re creating value for all our stakeholders while becoming a more effective and efficient company.
In fiscal year 2025, we made meaningful progress towards achieving our impact goals, including:
- Supported soil health on over one million acres of land through regenerative and organic practices, strengthening supply chain resilience, and enhancing ecosystem health.
- Achieved Safe Quality Food certification at all eligible distribution centers (DCs), reinforcing our commitment to food safety and quality.
- Grew supplier membership in UNFI’s Climate Action Partnership by 30% and hosted an inaugural Climate Summit, enabling progress toward shared climate goals and adding differentiated value for our partners.
- Diverted 85% of waste from DCs away from landfills, strengthening our salvage and recycling programs while donating excess food to communities in need.
- Sourced 42% of our electricity from renewable sources and completed our largest solar array to date at our Riverside, California DC, reducing our greenhouse gas emissions while lowering our operating costs.
- Engaged 3,000+ associates in our Belonging and Innovation Groups and logged over 15,000 volunteer hours, helping us create a high-performing and engaged workforce.
- Awarded over $1.8 million in impact investments and grants through the UNFI Foundation, supporting community nonprofit organizations that are increasing access to quality food.
“Through our Better for All impact strategy, we aim to create shared value with and for our partners,” said Alisha Real, Vice President of Sustainability and Impact. “Together, we are working toward a food system that protects the planet, nourishes communities, and serves everyone better. The progress we’ve made shows what’s possible when sustainability is integrated into the day-to-day operations of the business.”
Our Better for All impact strategy focuses on four key areas: resilient supply chains, thriving associates, sustainable and efficient operations, and nourished communities. These pillars guide our efforts to strengthen our business and make a positive impact across the food system.
As we look ahead, we see an even greater opportunity to collaborate with our customers, suppliers, and associates on solutions that benefit the food retail industry, the communities we serve, and the planet we share.
