UNFI Joins Campaign to Make the Business Case for Climate Solutions
Providence, RI -- Apr 12, 2013 -- ​UNFI is proud to count itself amongst the major U.S. companies that have officially signed the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP) climate declaration.
 
So far, 33 companies, including Starbucks, Ben and Jerry’s and Nike, have joined the BICEP coalition. Members have come together under the common belief that tackling climate change is not only the right thing to do, but that it also presents the greatest economic opportunity for U.S. companies in the 21st century. The new campaign was launched earlier this week in Washington D.C.
 
The goals of this initiative are to make the business case for tackling climate change, further conversations on climate solutions in Congress and inspire campaign members and other businesses with stories of change.
 
UNFI views the climate declaration as the next step in the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Over the years, UNFI has invested significantly in numerous LEED certified facilities and continues to plan future sustainable building projects. The company has constructed several solar arrays and made reducing fleet emissions and energy consumption a priority.
 
UNFI believes it is important to be a leader on this critical issue and work with a collective group of U.S. companies to advance and promote climate solutions. This will include participating in BICEP programs but also continuing our efforts to make UNFI’s business and supply chain more sustainable.
