UNFI Foundation Announces 2014 Impact
Providence, RI -- Jan 30, 2015 -- In 2014, the UNFI Foundation awarded $698,000 through 72 grants to support organic and sustainable agriculture, a 51% increase from 2013. The nonprofit organizations that were funded work to: develop new organic farmers, conduct research, teach organic farming practices, and much more. Over 80% of funding supported three main areas: organic food production, research and science, and organic farming education. The balance was spread throughout multiple focuses within the industry such as seed biodiversity, and GMO labeling initiatives. Organizations that were funded impact numerous geographies across the U.S., and include The Organic Center, Green America, National Farm to School Network, FamilyFarmed.org, and the Farmer Veteran Coalition.
