UNFI Foundation’s Annual Charity Classic Raises $1.1M to Expand Access to Quality Food

This week, the UNFI Foundation hosted its annual golf Charity Classic, raising a record $1.1M to advance the Foundation’s mission of empowering changemakers to create more sustainable and equitable food systems across North America. UNFI suppliers and industry partners came together to connect on the course, learn about the Foundation’s mission, and engage directly with organizations making a difference in their communities.

During the event, attendees heard from UNFI Foundation grantees on how the Foundation’s support translates into meaningful, on the ground impact. Farm Fresh Rhode Island shared how its work is helping to strengthen local food systems, while World Central Kitchen highlighted the importance of providing rapid food relief during times of crisis. Each organization was awarded a $50,000 grant as part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to food access and community wellbeing.

“Support from the UNFI Foundation helps us respond quickly and at scale when communities need it most,” said Tunde Wackman, Chief Development Officer at World Central Kitchen. “Together, we’re able to deliver fresh, nourishing meals in moments of crisis while strengthening local food systems along the way.”

The UNFI Foundation invests in innovative nonprofit organizations that advance food access and resilience in communities nationwide. By funding grassroots efforts and scalable solutions, the Foundation helps strengthen communities while aligning with UNFI’s broader commitments to protecting the planet and increasing access to healthy food.

“The Charity Classic is more than just an event – it’s a reflection of what’s possible when our industry unites around a greater purpose,” said Matt Echols, UNFI’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and UNFI Foundation Board Chair. “With the continued support of our partners, the UNFI Foundation is building momentum toward a more sustainable and equitable food system.”

The UNFI Foundation is on track to fund over 75 organizations this year through a combination of impact investments, annual grantmaking, and its 50 for 50 Campaign celebrating UNFI’s 50th anniversary.
