UNFI Celebrates Earth Month by Giving Back to the Planet and Communities

In honor of Earth Month, UNFI associates are giving back throughout April as part of the company’s annual clean-up campaign. Across North America, associates are volunteering in ways that fit their role and schedules, reviving local environments and community spaces.
Among the associate volunteer activities planned for the month are park, beach, and neighborhood cleanups to help refresh shared spaces and make them more welcoming. Associates are also volunteering with local food banks and community partners, making meaningful impacts in the communities where they live and work.
“As we celebrate 50 years, it’s important to recognize that UNFI has always been at its best when we’re serving others,” said Alisha Real, VP, Sustainability and Impact. “When our associates come together to make a difference, it creates connection, pride, and a shared belief in what we can achieve.”
The Earth Month campaign is one-way UNFI is empowering associates to give back and protect the planet as the company progresses toward its goal of recording 200,000 volunteer hours by 2030.
“I appreciate how UNFI encourages associates to come together and support our communities through volunteerism,” says Kimberly Brown, UNFI’s Brands+ Product Development/Quality Assurance Manager and Volunteer Champion. “By doing so, we build stronger teams while helping our planet and creating meaningful connections in the communities we serve.”
UNFI associates from the Hudson Valley Distribution Center in Hudson Valley, NY volunteered with the Regional Food Bank to pack and distribute food to communities in need.
UNFI’s volunteer activities help strengthen community connections and reinforce a culture of service—an enduring commitment as the company celebrates its 50th anniversary.
