UNFI York, PA Distribution Center Earns Energy Star
November 3, 2010: The UNFI York, PA distribution center has earned the Energy Star designation from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The USEPA Energy Star is the national mark of energy excellence and was designed to encourage companies to improve the performance and energy efficiency of workplaces. Buildings designated by the Energy Star save money and energy, help fight global warming, and have a smaller carbon footprint.
York was recognized for demonstrating superior energy performance, reducing energy consumption by 63% (as compared to a building of same average type and size), and scored 93 out of 100 possible points to earn the Energy Star.
Some of the features of the York facility include:
- Over 70% of all electronic equipment and appliances are Energy Star rated
- A reduction of lighting power density by more than 25% compared to a building of similar size
- All building energy related systems are calibrated by a professional to ensure optimum performance and monitored annually by metering systems
- Water use reduction of over 40% by using motion-activated sensors and flow controls thoughout the building
