UNFI Identifies Non-GMO Project Verified Products in Catalogs and Websites

In response to retailer demands for independent third party verification of non-GMO claims, UNFI now identifies products that are Non-GMO Project Verified on UNFI customer websites and in UNFI triannual catalogs and monthly special publications.   UNFI is working closely with the Non-GMO Project on this initiative and receives monthly updates of Verified products from the Project.

Non-GMO Project Verified products are identified on UNFI's Eastern Region and Western Region Customer websites with the "Non-GMO Project Verified" attribute:

UNFI no longer identifies products as non-GMO or GMO-free based solely on packaging or other manufacturer claims.

The Non-GMO Project is the only independent third party offering suppliers a reasonable, science-based, vetted process to remain vigilant regarding the level of possible GMO contamination in products.  Products that have been through the process may display a “Non-GMO Project Verified” seal, which means that the product has been produced according to rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance.

The Non-GMO Project is strongly supported by key retailers and retail associations in the natural and organic product industry.  UNFI, suppliers and other key industry members have supported the Non-GMO Project from its inception.  October 2010 will be the first “Non-GMO Project Month” which UNFI will be supporting with a variety of marketing initiatives.
