Japan’s Nuclear Crisis and US Food Safety

We are all concerned about the devastation and humanitarian disaster caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.   The resulting crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant not only threatens human life but also plant and animal life in the ocean and on land.

UNFI, like retailers and consumers in the US, relies on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to assure the safety of the U.S. food supply.  Protecting the public health by ensuring the safety and security of our nation’s food supply is a vital part of FDA's mission and a primary task of FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN).
