UNFI Receives Senator John H. Chafee Conservation Leadership Award

May 3, 2010: Providence, Rhode Island - United Natural Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNFI) has been awarded a Senator John H. Chafee Conservation Leadership Award in part for building their new, energy-efficient corporate headquarters in Providence, RI. Each year, the Environment Council of Rhode Island Education Fund honors four Rhode Island organizations for their efforts toward improving the health of the Rhode Island environment. This year UNFI was chosen from a field of 20 nominees.

UNFI’s headquarters is located on a Brownfield site in Providence’s Olneyville section and was designed to LEED® Silver standards. The headquarters consumes 40% less water and 25% less energy compared to a typical building of the same size and has the largest solar installation in Rhode Island to date.
